On November 23, the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People's Government held a press conference to introduce Shandong's effective reform measures in developing marine industry.

Shandong bravely shoulders the mission of building a maritime power. Its marine GDP increased from 1.27 trillion yuan in 2018 to 1.63 trillion yuan in 2022, accounting for 18.6% of the province's regional GDP and ranking second in China.

Shandong has taken the modern marine industry as one of its top ten industrial clusters and issued special plans for marine engineering equipment, marine fishery, marine tourism, and marine sci-tech during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Through upgrading the industrial base and modernizing the industrial chain, Shandong has accelerated the transformation and upgrading of the marine industry, and implemented a number of provincial leading projects. For example, the Shandong Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Plant Project has been approved by the State Council, and the Yulong Island Refining-Chemical Integration Project (Phase I) has completed mid-term delivery. The Modern Marine Ranching Comprehensive Pilot Construction Project has achieved remarkable results. Shandong has ranked first in China in terms of the added value of seven industries, including marine fishery, marine chemical engineering and marine power.
