On December 20, the 2022 New Chemical Materials Summit was held in Shandong Province. Zhang Liucheng, Secretary-general of Shandong High-quality Chemical Industry Alliance, delivered a speech. He said Shandong, based on local development conditions and keeping up with industrial upgrading and changing market needs, is cultivating new growth drivers in the chemical industry, taking the lead in forming a modern chemical industrial system in China and building a world-class green chemical industrial cluster in 2025.
In 2021, there were 3,056 chemical enterprises above designated size in Shandong Province, their operating revenue totaled 2.55 trillion yuan, and their profit reached 162.37 billion yuan, accounting for 11.3%, 17.6%, and 14% of the country's industries respectively, and 9.9%, 24.9% and 30.8% of the province's industries respectively.
According to Secretary-general Zhang, Shandong's chemical industry has developed an industrial system underpinned by refining, fertilizers, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, rubber processing, fine chemicals, and synthetic materials and their operating revenue accounted for one-fifth of that of both the country's and the province's industries above designated size, ranking first nationwide for 26 consecutive years.
At present, Shandong has formed an industrial cluster in northern Shandong and industrial agglomerations in central and southwestern Shandong for the petrochemical industry; key production bases in Zaozhuang, Ji'ning, and Heze for the coal chemical industry; key production bases in Zibo and Weifang for the salt chemical industry; the peninsula tire industrial cluster led by Qingdao, Yantai, and Weihai, and the tire industrial cluster in northern Shandong centered around Dongying and Weifang for the rubber industry.
