On October 10, the Yantai-Weihai ultra-high-voltage (UHV) power transmission and transformation project and the Haiyang Xin'an nuclear power grid-connection project were officially commissioned, marking the completion of China's first provincial-level UHV "double-loop grid" in Shandong. Together with the existing western grid loop, the new loop forms a figure-eight configuration, creating a major transmission corridor for clean energy from the Jiaodong Peninsula. With an abundance of nuclear and offshore wind power generating surplus electricity, the Yantai-Weihai region has shifted the provincial power dynamic from one-way "west-to-east power transmission" to "east-west mutual support." This enables surplus green electricity to be delivered to central and southwestern Shandong to fuel industries such as big data and intelligent manufacturing. By resolving the transmission bottleneck in the Jiaodong Peninsula, the project strengthens Shandong's power allocation capacity and boosts the integration of wind and solar energy. Delivering multiple energy, ecological, and socioeconomic benefits, it serves as a key provincial-level milestone in the development of China's new-type power grid and supports Shandong's green energy transition.
