Shandong Adds Four Items to China's Important Agricultural Heritage List

Recently, China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs unveiled the country's eighth batch of important agricultural heritage, with 88 traditional farming systems nationwide. Four are in Shandong: the Heze peony, Feicheng peach, Jiaozhou Chinese cabbage and Pingyin rose cultivation systems. They cover the cities of Heze, Tai'an, Qingdao and Jinan, and span flowers, fruit trees and vegetables.

These heritage items preserve distinctive traditional cultivation techniques while carrying deep farming culture and rural memory. They were selected through multiple rounds — city and county applications, provincial recommendations and comprehensive evaluation. They are traditional farming systems with ecological, cultural and economic value, not merely agricultural product brands.

The Ministry has urged local authorities to fulfill protection responsibilities, implement a three-year action plan for inheritance and development, protect traditional agricultural landscapes, cultivate heritage inheritors and improve mechanisms linking protection with farmers' interests. The goal is to promote living inheritance of agricultural heritage and integrate farming culture protection into rural revitalization.
