Recently, Qingdao released its Implementation Plan for Improving Supply-Demand Alignment of Consumer Goods and Promoting Consumption Expansion and Quality Improvement. The plan aims to promote innovation, strengthen brands, improve supply, cultivate new consumption scenarios and raise quality. By 2028, Qingdao aims to develop more than 10 China-level consumer brands and over 25 provincial-level ones, and create a number of nationally recognized, high-quality consumer products.
Drawing on local characteristics, the plan includes a special section on marine consumer goods, focusing on marine food, marine cosmetics and marine cultural and creative products to foster new growth points for marine consumption. The city will also tap events such as Qingdao Brand Day, the Qingdao International Beer Festival, fashion week and the Qingdao Marathon to turn event traffic into consumer spending. It seeks to strengthen regional public brands including "Qingdao Youpin" (Qingdao Premium) and "Haiwei Qingdao" (Qingdao Seafood).
To that end, Qingdao will focus on five areas: technological innovation, brand development, enriching supply, cultivating new business forms and improving the development environment. It will develop the debut economy and platform economy, promote AI-enabled industries, and strengthen quality and financial support, so as to better match supply and demand and further enhance its consumer influence as a "city of brands."
