Qingdao Proof-of-Concept Platforms: Turning Brilliant Sci-Tech Ideas into Tangible Results

Recently, Qingdao launched the application process for its 2026 proof-of-concept platforms, stepping up efforts to build vehicles that facilitate the "first kilometer" of technology transfer and overcome the hurdles of commercializing scientific research.

Qingdao began its rollout in 2023 and now boasts 29 proof-of-concept platforms at the provincial and municipal levels, including six provincial platforms, covering key industries such as marine equipment, biopharmaceuticals, and integrated circuits. Local authorities have introduced targeted policies offering up to 2 million yuan in grants and subsidies, aiming to establish 50 municipal platforms and complete 500 project validations by 2028.

These platforms integrate both technical and commercial validation, with universities providing research support and enterprises offering real-world industrial applications. The city has also formed service alliances, established innovative partnership mechanisms, mobilized capital resources, and implemented dynamic, performance-based evaluations to drive the commercialization of laboratory breakthroughs and empower the development of new quality productive forces.
