Shandong: Where Does the Resilience of Foreign Trade Come From?

Source:Haibao News 07-30-2026 10:00:00

Growth Rate and Growth Quality

In the first half of the year, Shandong's total imports and exports, as well as its exports and imports, all reached record highs for the same period.

In the first half of the year, mechanical and electrical products accounted for a steady 46% of Shandong's exports. Among them, the value of automobile exports grew by more than 50%, the scale of commercial vehicle exports remained the largest in the country, and exports of competitive products such as LCD televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, construction machinery, and agricultural machinery all achieved double-digit growth. Furthermore, exports of deeply processed agricultural products—such as pet food, fish oil, and fruit and vegetable juices—increased by 9.6%, 103.7%, and 6.7% respectively, reflecting that Shandong's agricultural exports are accelerating their shift from primary products to high value-added products.

Enterprise Quantity and Brand Vitality

The number of enterprises in Shandong with actual import and export performance increased by more than 8,100 compared with the same period last year, bringing the total to over 74,000—a record high. Among them, private enterprises numbered 69,000, with imports and exports totaling 1.4 trillion yuan, up 6%, and their share of the province's total rising to 77.3%, further underscoring their role as the "ballast" of foreign trade.

While exploring markets, Shandong enterprises are also accelerating efforts to build their own brands. In the first half of the year, exports of the province's own brands grew by 15%, with an increasing number of Shandong brands going global and entering international markets. Recently, as Europe has been hit by heat waves, air conditioners from Shandong brands such as Haier and Hisense have been selling briskly in local markets, providing a vivid illustration of the upgrade from "Made in Shandong" to "Shandong brands" going global.
