Shandong: UHV Double-Ring Grid Opens a New Route for Green Power

Source:Haibao News 07-29-2026 10:00:00

On July 27, the Yantai–Weihai ultra-high-voltage (UHV) transmission project, with a total investment of more than 12.3 billion yuan, was successfully connected into a closed loop, marking the completion of China's first provincial UHV double-ring power grid in Shandong. After it officially begins operation in October, clean electricity generated from the Jiaodong Peninsula—including nuclear power and offshore wind power—will be delivered across the province via this "green power expressway," significantly accelerating the peninsula's transition from a power-consuming region to a power-exporting region.

The completion of the double-ring grid represents not only a physical upgrade of the power network, but also a landmark step in Shandong's energy transition. Once a recipient of electricity under the country's west-to-east power transmission program, Shandong now boasts a "green power expressway" spanning the Jiaodong Peninsula. This shift from power receiver to power supplier reflects a historic transformation in the province's energy mix, with nuclear and wind power evolving from supplementary energy sources into major sources of electricity. Shaped like the Chinese character "日" (sun), the ring grid opens the main transmission corridor for exporting clean energy from the Jiaodong Peninsula, enabling abundant green electricity to flow across mountains and seas and providing sustained momentum for the province's high-quality development.
