A National First! Shandong Sees First Cross-Border E-Commerce Retail Import Tax Paid with Digital Yuan

On May 18, at the Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Comprehensive Bonded Zone, Heao (Qingdao) International Trade Co., Ltd. paid 102,900 yuan in cross-border e-commerce retail import taxes using the digital yuan. This marks the first transaction of its kind in China. Enterprises can now pay taxes online simply by linking their digital yuan wallets to the China International Trade Single Window. The system offers 24/7 real-time settlement and full traceability without the need for physical receipts, significantly reducing costs and boosting efficiency. Qingdao Customs had already implemented digital yuan payments for import duties, security deposits, and postal taxes. This latest move further expands the application of the digital currency in cross-border trade administration, supporting its broader international adoption.
