On March 30, 2026, led by leading enterprises, Shandong has accelerated the launch of lithium battery projects and the development of the complete industrial chain, striving to build a lithium battery industrial hub in northern China. This industrial chain is also one of Shandong's 19 iconic industrial chains. With a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan, the Waste Lithium Battery Recycling and Utilization Project of Sunwoda Electronics Co. has been put into operation in Tengzhou. The Phase I project boasts an annual processing capacity of 50,000 tons with a recovery rate of 98% for battery black mass. Upon full completion, the project will achieve an annual processing capacity of 100,000 tons, with an output value exceeding 3.6 billion yuan. Empowered by automated dismantling production lines and AI recognition technology, the project has achieved a five-fold increase in dismantling efficiency, and the purity of its recovered battery black mass far exceeds industry standards. Zaozhuang offers comprehensive support to the project, including an 800-million-yuan green fund and land reservations for the Phase II. In turn, the project shores up the weak links in the local lithium battery recycling industrial chain. To date, Zaozhuang has gathered 130 upstream and downstream enterprises in the lithium battery industry, and the output value of Shandong's lithium battery industry has surpassed 120 billion yuan. Anchored by Zaozhuang, Shandong will further improve the industrial chain, basically complete the recycling system by 2027, foster a green and intelligent lithium battery industrial ecosystem, and establish its position as the leader of the lithium battery industry in northern China.
