Establishment of a Provincial-Level Demonstration Area for the National Unified Power Market in Shandong

On March 30, 2026, it was announced at the 2026 Shandong Provincial New Power System Research Achievement Exchange Conference that Shandong's total installed capacity of new energy has exceeded 130 million kilowatts, the installed capacity of new energy storage has surpassed 10 million kilowatts, and the regulation capacity of virtual power plants has topped 1 million kilowatts. The province has initially established a provincial-level Demonstration Area for the national unified power market. Currently, Shandong has built China's largest provincial AC-DC hybrid power grid, boasting the most distinctive characteristics of a new power system among the eastern provinces. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Shandong will focus on the core features of the new power system, prioritize green and low-carbon development, and optimize the proportion of wind and solar power. It will accelerate the layout of charging infrastructure for electric heavy-duty trucks, build China's first provincial ultra-high voltage double-ring network, and extend the main power grid to energy bases. In addition, it will advance the construction of national-level pilot projects and special scientific and technological research, and foster scientific and technological innovation platforms. Meanwhile, it will give full play to the role of the New Power System Research Center, conduct research on energy transition, and build an industrial ecosystem featuring efficient coordination among government, enterprises, society and the public, as well as integration of source, grid, load, storage, data and carbon, so as to achieve shared benefits and win-win results.
