Shandong Releases the 2025 Marine Economy "Report Card"

On March 13, the Oceanic Administration of Shandong Province released its 2025 report card on marine economic development. The province's marine GDP reached 1,900.15 billion yuan, firmly maintaining its position as the second-highest in China and accounting for 18.4% of the regional GDP. Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, it has grown at an average annual rate of 7.9%, demonstrating significant progress in building Shandong into a powerhouse for the marine economy.

Industrial development has seen improved quality and efficiency. Shandong has established 13 provincial-level modern marine industrial clusters, with emerging marine sectors growing by 7.2% year on year. The seven coastal cities generated 590 billion yuan in domestic tourism revenue, highlighting the vitality of marine culture and tourism. Shandong leads the nation in sci-tech innovation capabilities, boasting 50 state-level marine sci-tech innovation platforms and 25 academicians in the marine sector—the highest number in China in both categories. Seven national key laboratories related to marine research are driving industrial innovation, and major sci-tech innovation projects are progressing steadily.
