Since 2011, the Donggang District of Rizhao City has collaborated with research teams from the Ocean University of China and the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. They pioneered a significant breakthrough in China — successfully farming cold-water fish in warm sea areas. By simulating the salinity and temperature conditions ideal for salmon growth, they have realized land-based industrialized incubation and cultivation and developed an integrated land-to-sea aquaculture model.
To date, Donggang District has planned and implemented 14 key salmon-related projects with an estimated investment of 3.65 billion yuan. These projects span the entire industrial chain, including improved variety breeding, green aquaculture, feed processing, cold-chain logistics, and end-product sales. Currently, the District is home to over 30 salmon breeding and farming enterprises, with the industry scale continuing to expand and the industrial chain further strengthened and extended.
