In Shandong, dining table delicacies are deeply tied to the sea's bounty, such as Rizhao salmon, Yantai abalone, Jiaodong sea cucumber, and Rushan oysters.
In its push into the deep and distant seas, Shandong has pioneered innovative methods for deep-sea aquaculture and established a set of aquaculture approaches and models with distinctive local features. The province has developed over 2,800 gravity-type deep-water net cages and 37 sets of large deep-sea aquaculture equipment, with 4 million cubic meters of aquaculture water. Pioneering projects, such as the Guoxin and Jinghai series, have provided valuable experience for the advancement of deep-sea aquaculture nationwide.
Shandong is home to 17 national-level aquatic original and improved seed farms, the highest number in the country. At the provincial level, 26 leading aquatic seed enterprises, 30 research teams, and 70 seedling breeding companies have been selected to form a collaborative breeding entity. Focusing on key industries, such as oysters, sea cucumbers, scallops, prawns, and marine fish, they are advancing innovation in aquatic breeding and developing new, resilient, disease-resistant, and high-yield varieties.
