Recently, two Shandong China-Europe Express trains, operated by Shandong Hi-Speed Group, embarked on a "two-way race across mountains and rivers" at the multimodal transportation center in the SCO Demonstration Area, with their departures and arrivals merely minutes apart. One train, a special train for home appliance exports loaded with high-quality products from Shandong such as washing machines and refrigerators, set off slowly and is expected to reach Russia in 18 days. Just over ten minutes later, another train, a special train for grain imports from Kazakhstan, the "Granary of Central Asia," arrived smoothly, carrying over 1,600 metric tons of high-quality feed-grade wheat flour.
The Shandong China-Europe Express service has deeply integrated into the development of the SCO Demonstration Area, actively participating in the construction of the Zone's international logistics center. Currently, there are 13 scheduled train routes and 22 regularly operating international rail lines, connecting 23 countries and 54 cities covered by the SCO membership and the Belt and Road Initiative. Flagship lines such as the SCO Express lines and the land-sea express lines to Japan and South Korea help establish Qingdao as the "gateway to the sea" for SCO member states toward the Asia-Pacific region.
