Recently, China's first port demonstration project integrating green hydrogen production, transportation, storage, refueling and utilization commenced operation at the Weifang Port area of Bohaiwan Port Group, a subsidiary of Shandong Port Group (SPG), establishing a replicable technical model for port energy transition nationwide.
The project utilizes four 6.7MW wind power installations in the area to power a hydrogen refueling station with a capacity of 500 kg per 12 hours and a water electrolysis hydrogen production station with a capacity of 200 Nm³/h: With 300kg daily compressed hydrogen storage capacity, the hydrogen refueling station fully meets the daily hydrogen demand for 10 hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks operating in the port area. Bohaiwan Port Group is actively exploring innovative applications for hydrogen in ports, converting "curtailment" of wind power into hydrogen energy. This can achieve annual utilization of five million kilowatt-hours of green electricity, and effectively reduce the electricity cost for hydrogen production by over 1.65 million yuan.
