Dongying features a coastline stretching over 460 kilometers and a vast sea area of more than 6,000 square kilometers, rich in marine resources such as oil and gas, rock salt, and fisheries. These assets provide the city with significant advantages for developing a marine economy.

The city is actively developing and expanding emerging marine industries by harnessing its offshore wind and solar energy resources to drive the high-quality growth of new energy sectors, covering wind power, solar energy, energy storage, and hydrogen energy. Dongying is also enhancing the competitiveness of its marine engineering equipment manufacturing and establishing a national public innovation base for petroleum equipment and engineering technology, grounded in high standards. Furthermore, Dongying promotes the development of marine pharmaceuticals and biological products by strengthening collaborations with marine medical research institutions and leading marine biomedicine enterprises, thereby accelerating the development of chitin, astaxanthin, sea cucumber peptides, and other marine functional foods and new biological materials. Additionally, the city is advancing the seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization industry while supporting new desalination projects in coastal industrial zones.
