Shandong Accelerates the Production of Chinese Medicinal Herbs and Strives to Maintain the Growing Area at Around 3.8 Million Mu

Recently, multiple departments in Shandong Province jointly issued the Measures for Promoting High-Quality Development of Chinese Medicinal Herbs Production Across the Province, proposing to continuously improve the comprehensive production capacity and quality and efficiency of Chinese medicinal herbs and to build a production hub for authentic medicinal herbs with Shandong characteristics in northern China.

The document proposes to work to improve the four major Chinese medicinal herb growing areas in the central mountainous areas and southwestern areas of Shandong, the Yellow River Delta, and the Jiaodong Peninsula, as well as the aquatic medicinal herb breeding areas in the Nansi Lake and the Dongping Lake; promote the clustered development of bulk authentic medicinal herb varieties such as honeysuckle, American ginseng, salvia miltiorrhiza, and hawthorn; steadily and orderly expand the cultivation scale of key authentic medicinal herb varieties like "Lu Shi Wei." The efforts aim to maintain the province's Chinese medicinal herb planting area at about 3.8 million mu.

At the same time, we will deeply explore the production potential of Chinese medicinal herbs in saline-alkali land, accelerate the introduction, selection, and experiments and demonstration of salt-alkaline-tolerant Chinese medicinal herb varieties, and vigorously develop salt-alkaline-tolerant medicinal materials such as jujube seeds, motherwort, dandelion, cistanche, and isatis root.
