Heze, Shandong: Peony Leverages Industrial Chain to Inject Economy Vitality

In April, peonies are in full bloom in Heze, Shandong. Flowers can be appreciated, roots are used as medicine, seeds are pressed for oil, stamens or pistils are made into tea, petals are extracted for hydrolat... Heze continues to explore the value of peonies and cultivate the "industry-boosting flower" and "income-increasing flower".

Heze City has more than 120 peony-related enterprises, and has developed more than 260 kinds of products such as peony seed oil, peony tea, peony daily chemicals and biomedicine, which are exported to more than 30 countries and regions. In 2024, the total output value reached RMB 13 billion yuan, creating more than 500,000 jobs.

The City links enterprises, associations and local resources to inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the peony industry. It will deepen the collaborative innovation of "industry-university-research-application", promote the upgrading of the peony from a flower to a big industry, and build a Heze model for rural revitalization.
