Following China’s comprehensive relaxation and optimization of transit visa exemption policies, foreign nationals are increasingly visiting for tourism, business, visits, and family reunions. Driven by geographic proximity, Shandong’s ports have seen a surge in the arrivals of travelers from the Republic of Korea (ROK). According to statistics, in the first quarter, over 151,000 foreign nationals entered through Shandong’s ports, with over 101,000 benefiting from visa exemptions. ROK nationals accounted for 83.1% of the visa-exempt travelers.
Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, the province’s busiest international gateway, handled over 70% of these foreign arrivals. Meanwhile, Weihai, while welcoming large numbers of tourists from the ROK, is also experiencing booming maritime trade between China and the ROK.
With upcoming holidays such as Qingming, Labor Day, and Dragon Boat Festival, coupled with the first visit of China’s domestically built large cruise ship Adora Magic City to Qingdao, Shandong Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection Station will continue to implement streamlined immigration measures. Supported by policy incentives like unilateral, reciprocal, and 240-hour transit visa exemptions, the agency aims to ensure smooth passenger and cargo flows at ports.
