Establishment of China's First "Carbon Neutral" Hydrogen Refueling Station in Qingdao

Recently, the Haihe Road Hydrogen Station operated by Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. received recognition from an authoritative organization, earning the "Carbon Neutral" Certificate and becoming the first hydrogen refueling station in China to achieve this distinction. It is located in the hydrogen energy demonstration park of Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. In addition to refueling hydrogen vehicles such as hydrogen buses and trucks, the station is also capable of servicing hydrogen transport vehicles like tube trailers.

To effectively reduce energy consumption and establish a "carbon neutral" hydrogen refueling station, researchers at Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. have developed the energy-saving technology of "flexible virtual hydrogen storage". They offset greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide generated during the station's operation, by utilizing green electricity produced by a 5.5 MW photovoltaic system integrated with the refueling station. This photovoltaic project reportedly generates approximately 7 million kWh of green electricity annually, while the energy used for operating the hydrogen refueling station accounts for only about 30% of the power generated by the photovoltaic system during the same period, thereby achieving zero carbon emissions.
