Shandong Launches the Open Competition for AI Medical Device Innovation Initiative in 2025

Shandong Province is set to launch the open competition for artificial intelligence (AI) medical device innovation initiative in 2025. It targets nine areas in three major categories, including intelligent decision support systems, brain-computer hybrid intelligent systems, and supporting environments. The aim is to select a group of organizations with robust innovation capabilities to concentrate their efforts on tackling challenges, thus fostering the innovative development of AI medical devices and accelerating the deployment and application of new technologies and products.

Shandong encourages applications for open competition in the form of consortiums, which integrate production, education, research, application and medicine. In other words, it encourages the participation of enterprises, medical and healthcare institutions, universities and scientific research institutes. Each consortium shall consist of one leading organization and no more than four cooperating organizations. Regarding open competition for intelligent decision support systems and brain-computer hybrid intelligent systems, the leading organization must be one that intends to apply for product registration. For supporting environment open competition, medical and healthcare institutions or other enterprises and public institutions shall take the lead in the application process.
