People's Daily reported on Feb 10 that the Qingdao production base of MGI Tech Co Ltd, located in Qingdao West Coast New Area, has made significant innovations in manufacturing and developing the gene sequencing industry chain.
Sequencing instruments, biological enzymes, and reagents are indispensable to gene sequencing. The MGI Qingdao production base has already achieved full-chain production of three such products.
The gene sequencing instrument produced at the base can capture spontaneous luminescent signals emitted by 25 million DNA templates simultaneously when placed on a gene sequencing slide, with a spacing of only 900 nanometers between DNA templates. This innovative product quickly gained market recognition.
Biological enzymes are essential for catalyzing gene detection reagents, determining the quality of in vitro diagnostic reagents. The Qingdao production base currently produces 2,000 liters of such enzymes annually.
Gene sequencing instruments are highly precise laboratory devices that China was previously unable to produce. MGI Tech was established in 2016 to develop these instruments.
"We have built a highly integrated interdisciplinary professional R&D team involving disciplines such as optics, mechanics, software, genomics, and more," said Mo Chenggang, vice president of MGI Tech.
Today, MGI Tech has mastered the systematic engineering technology required for the entire process of gene sequencing applications, achieving independent and controllable R&D and production throughout the entire industry chain. MGI Tech business operates in over 100 countries and regions.
