Recently, the Smart Dragon 3 carrier rocket, manufactured by the Oriental Maritime Space Port, was launched from the port's sea launch ship off the coast near it in Haiyang, marking the rocket model's fifth sea-based launch.
Notably, this is the port's first offshore launch mission in 2025, and also the rocket model's first low-inclination orbit launch from Haiyang offshore waters. Selecting such a location for the launch not only ensures safety but also reduces maritime navigation expenses, shortens technical preparation time and enhances the economic efficiency of the mission.
Currently, the Oriental Maritime Space Port has established efficient capabilities, enabling two launches per week in coastal areas and one launch every two weeks in offshore areas. "We expect to complete over 10 launch missions this year, bringing greater momentum to Shandong's maritime and aerospace development," said Teng Yao, Director of the Shandong Maritime and Aerospace Equipment Technology Innovation Center.
