Recently, the 2024 China-Pacific Island Countries Cooperation and Exchange Conference and Dialogue on Joint Climate Response were held in Liaocheng, Shandong. The theme of this year's event is "Exchange and Mutual Learning between Civilizations of China and Pacific Island Countries for Promoting Green and Low-carbon Development," which aims to facilitate the building of a closer China-PICs community of shared future and help enhance the cities' openness and international influence.
Shandong and PICs share a long-standing friendship. In recent years, they have conducted extensive exchanges at various levels, establishing high-level cooperation platforms and continuously expanding practical cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, ocean affairs, education, health, and culture. From January to August this year, Shandong's imports and exports with PICs increased by 34.5%, and the province has established sister city relationships with seven PICs, totaling 13 pairs.
Tackling climate change is a common challenge facing all humanity. As a doer on ecological conservation and climate governance, China has all along undertaken due international responsibilities and raised the ambition of its climate actions on its own initiative. The results released during the event include launching the China-Pacific Island Countries Green Development and Cooperation Alliance and the China-Pacific Island Countries Vocational Education Alliance.
