On August 29, the 2023 Green, Low-carbon and High-quality Development Conference hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology, and the People's Government of Shandong Province kicked off in Yantai. More than 500 experts, scholars, and heads of international organizations and multinational companies from the field of green and low-carbon development worldwide attended it to discuss green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.

Among them were Yang Zhen, Vice-chairperson of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Sri Lanka's Parliament Speaker, Lin Wu, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, Sun Jinlong, Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, Li Chunlin, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, Zhang Guihua, Member of the Leading Party Members Group and Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Zhang Jinliang, President of the China Construction Bank, and Patric Scheidner, Corporate Vice President Global Head of Aviation, Space, Rail of Henkel who delivered speeches. Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Shandong Province, presided over the Opening Ceremony and introduced the progress in the construction of a green, low-carbon and high-quality development pilot zone.

In his speech, Lin Wu said that in recent years, Shandong has focused on optimization and upgrading to develop new advantages in industrial development; encouraged innovation-driven development to develop new advantages in self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology; promoted empowerment and efficiency improvement to shape new advantages for the digital economy; pursued green development to form new advantages of green and low-carbon development; facilitated coordination and linkage to shape new advantages of coordinated development between urban and rural areas; deepened cooperation to develop new advantages in opening up.

At the plenary conference, Long Yongtu, Vice Minister of the former Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the People's Republic of China and former Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia, delivered a keynote speech. Meanwhile, the Report on China's Green Trade Development and the White Paper on the Development of China's Clean Energy Industry were released; the signing and launching ceremony of the China-Norway International Cooperation Center, the establishment and launching ceremony of the International Ocean Carbon Sink Industrial Organization, and the establishment ceremony of the Green Technology Investment Alliance were held. Relevant leaders from the Shandong Development and Reform Commission introduced key projects. A total of 33 projects were signed on site, with a total investment of 519.78 billion yuan.

Moreover, a series of other activities were also held during the conference. Among them were the Decision-making Consultation Meeting on Green, Low-carbon and High-quality Development, the 2023 Carbon Peaking and Neutrality Conference, the Promotion and Business Fair for Projects for the Replacement of Old Growth Drivers with New Ones, the 2023 Clean Energy Development Conference, the 2023 Green, Low-carbon and High-quality Development Conference Equipment Exhibition and the 2023 China International Nuclear Power Industry and Equipment Exhibition.
