Hull of Asia’s First New Type of “Offshore Oil and Gas Processing Plant” Completed in Qingdao, Shandong

On August 17, the hull of “Haiyang Shiyou 122”, Asia’s first cylindrical floating oil production, storage, and offloading unit under the general contracting of Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd., was completed in Qingdao, Shandong Province, marking a new breakthrough in China’s deepwater super-large offshore oil and gas equipment R&D and manufacturing technology capability.

Compared with the traditional ship-type structure, “Haiyang Shiyou 122” with a new cylindrical structure design uses less steel yet has better overall stability and a stronger ability to resist severe sea conditions. It can process around 5,600 tons of crude oil per day and operate continuously at sea for 15 years without a need to return to the dock, making it a more economical option. After its completion next year, it will be used in China’s first deepwater oilfield secondary development project together with Asia’s first deepwater jacket platform “Haiji-2”, creating a new engineering model for the dry wellhead development of the Lupo oilfield in the South China Sea and providing a brand-new option for economical and efficient development of deepwater oil and gas fields in China.
