Collaborative Efforts in Shandong Drive Carbon Emissions Reduction, Pollution Control, Green Development Expansion, and Economic Growth

Green is the defining feature of high-quality development. Shandong has firmly embraced and implemented the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, working together to promote carbon emissions reduction, pollution control, green development expansion, and economic growth, and continuously improving the quality of the ecological environment. Taking industrial development as an example, Jinan Start-up Area has actively brought in green, low-carbon and high-tech industries. It has introduced 162 high-end quality projects such as new energy vehicles, with a total investment of nearly 400 billion yuan. Shandong has consistently prioritized ecology and green development, preserving "lucid waters and lush mountains" as "invaluable assets".

Energy is a crucial sector for promoting the transition and development toward a greener, low-carbon future. Starting with the nine major projects of energy transformation and development, Shandong has accelerated the construction of five clean energy bases, including offshore wind power, offshore photovoltaic power, nuclear power in Jiaodong Peninsula, wind-solar-energy storage integration in saline-alkali tidal flat land in northern Shandong, and "photovoltaic +" in coal mining subsidence areas in southwestern Shandong. This aims to promote the base-driven and large-scale development of new and renewable energy. By the end of June this year, Shandong had achieved an installed capacity of 83.818 million kilowatts for new energy and renewable energy power generation, accounting for 41.8% of the total installed capacity. This was 11.7% higher than the figure in 2020.
