New energy is a key industry for promoting green and low-carbon development. After years of planning and development, Weihai has become the only city in Shandong Province that is home to a diverse range of new energy resources such as nuclear power, wind power, photovoltaic power, pumped storage, and biomass energy. Aimed at cultivating the new energy industry into the eighth largest industrial cluster in the city, Weihai has introduced leading enterprises such as State Nuclear Power Automation System Engineering Co., Ltd., CLP Huayuan Nuclear Power Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Mingyang Smart Energy Group Co., Ltd., and Envision Group and planned to implement more than 30 new energy projects this year.

As one of the first coastal cities to open to the outside world in China, Weihai has always enjoyed an edge in openness. In recent years, Weihai has made a big push to consolidate Japanese and South Korean markets and tap into European and American markets and play a more positive role in the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Driven by the efforts of advancing the coordinated development of Weihai's port and airport and Incheon's port and airport, Weihai which was once constricted by its poor land transportation has now emerged as a logistics transportation hub in Northeast Asia, establishing an international logistics channel that connects Japan and South Korea in the east and Eurasia in the west.

Ocean is Weihai's greatest advantage and also enjoys the greatest potential for promoting green, low-carbon and high-quality development. Under the guidance of Weihai's citywide endeavor to build an international marine science and technology city, a host of characteristic marine industrial parks and clusters have been developed, forming a new growth pole for the innovative development of the marine economy.
