Nine Cities in Shandong Selected into New Batch of "Gigabit Cities"

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently released the latest achievements in constructing "gigabit cities" (cities with gigabit 5G, optical fiber coverage). Nine cities in Shandong were selected. They are Binzhou, Dezhou, Dongying, Jining, Weihai, Zaozhuang, Linyi, Yantai, and Zibo. They are joined by Jinan, Qingdao, and Rizhao, which were selected in 2021. Shandong now has 12 gigabit cities, ranking second in the country in terms of the total number.

Shandong continues to strengthen "double gigabit" networks and promote the construction of "gigabit cities", consolidating the new infrastructure. Last year, Shandong built 162,000 5G base stations and 999,000 10G passive optical network (PON) ports, achieving full coverage of "double gigabit" networks in administrative regions at or above the county level, continuous coverage of 5G networks in key scenarios, full coverage of 5G networks on coastlines and main offshore routes, and coverage of urban household gigabit optical networks exceeding 130%.
