Shandong Plans to Build a World-class Green Chemical Industry Cluster

On December 20, the 2022 New Chemical Materials Summit was held in Zibo, Shandong Province. Zhang Liucheng, Secretary-general of Shandong High-quality Chemical Industry Alliance, delivered a speech. He said Shandong is cultivating new growth drivers in the chemical industry, taking the lead in forming a modern chemical industry system in China and building a world-class green chemical industry cluster in 2025.

According to Zhang Liucheng, Shandong’s chemical industry has formed an industrial system of refining, fertilizer, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, rubber processing, fine chemicals, and synthetic materials. Its business income accounted for one-fifth of the national and Shandong's industries above designated size, ranking first in the country for 26 consecutive years. In recent years, Shandong is actively expediting the replacement of old growth drivers with new ones, especially in the transformation and upgrading of high-end chemicals actively explored. The initial effect of industrial clusters has appeared.

Zhang Liucheng added that in the next three years, the average annual growth in revenue of Shandong’s chemical enterprises above designated size is expected to reach 7%, maintaining the first industry scale nationwide; the added value of the high-end chemical industry will increase by about 10% annually, accounting for more than 50% of the chemical industry in Shandong. By 2025, Shandong will basically build it into a chemical powerhouse, take the lead in forming a modern chemical industry system in China, and develop a world-class green chemical industry cluster.
