Promoting High-quality, Massive Development of New-type Energy Storage in Shandong

In recent years, Shandong has perseveringly promoted the high-quality development of new energy and renewable energy, pushed for the massive development of "five clean energy bases" (offshore wind power, offshore PV, nuclear power, northern Shandong's saline-alkali mudflats, western Shandong's sinking land in coalmining areas) and county-wide distributed PV, the development of green energy in "100 townships and 1,000 villages", as well as the construction of "two clean energy demonstration projects", accelerated the replacement of traditional energy with clean energy, and continuously improved the quality of energy supply.

Shandong has included new-type energy storage into the "fourteenth five-year" plan with the aim of achieving key breakthroughs in this field, released the first implementation opinion on energy storage demonstration in China, and introduced preferential policies such as energy storage priority, preferential power generation and more earnings for more efforts. Shandong's total installed capacity of new-type energy storage has reached 830,000 kilowatts. Energy storage industry chains such as materials production, equipment manufacturing, energy storage integration, engineering construction and consultation & testing have taken shape in Shandong. In the first half of 2022, Shandong reduced abandoned wind power and PV power by approximately 163 million kilowatt-hours, equivalent to the one-month electricity demand of 310,000 households.

At the next stage, Shandong will step up efforts to tackle hard-nut sci-tech problems, pool strengths for innovations and breakthroughs, and promote the development of multi-model, path and scenario applications of new-type energy storage.
