Shandong to Create Hundreds of Billions of VR Industry Highland

Seven departments including the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology recently jointly released the "Three-Year Action Plan for Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Virtual Reality Industry in Shandong Province (2022-2024)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"), which aims to cultivate and promote hundreds of application scenarios and solutions across the province in three years, and build a domestic first-class and internationally competitive hundreds of billions of VR industry highland.

According to the "Plan", Shandong will build the regional VR industry featuring the "1+4+N" layout: with Qingdao being the center, four cities including Jinan, Weifang, Yantai, and Weihai linked together with the synergy among other cities. Meanwhile, Shandong will push forward to fulfil five key tasks such as optimize and improve the industrial chain and the ecosystem of industrial development, reinforce technology collaborative innovation and improve public service capabilities, conduct industry application demonstrations and empower cutting-edge emerging fields, cultivate and expand market entities and stimulate the inherent vitality of the market, strengthen the introduction and cultivation of talents to strongly support industrial development.

By 2024, the province should apply for more than 3,000 new international and domestic patents in the field of VR, the R&D investment intensity of leading enterprises should reach more than 6%, and a total of more than 10,000 professionals related to the VR industry should be cultivated.
