Located in the southeastern part of Linyi City, Linyi Economic and Technological Development Zone (hereinafter referred to as the Zone) was constructed with approval of the government of Shandong Province in June 2003 and upgraded to a state-level economic and technological development zone in December 2010. It covers a planning control area of 223km2, administering 3 subdistricts and 72 administrative villages with a population of 260,000. The Zone is near Yi River in the west and near Shuhe River in the east. It is close to the diversion canal linking Yi River and Shuhe River in the south, and Huangshan in the north. Richly endowed by nature, it is granted with many titles such as United Nation's green industry platform, China's most popular development zone among investors, national industry-city integration demonstration area, national comprehensive pilot unit for new urbanization, China’s e-commerce demonstration area, national eco-industry demonstration area, software industry base of National Torch Plan, China's innovation demonstration base of industry-university-research cooperation, national science and technology business incubator, national low-carbon industrial park, regional brand construction pilot unit of national industrial cluster, national famous brand creation demonstration area, China logistics demonstration base, national new industrialization demonstration base, one of the top 100 industrial parks for influence in China, one of the top 100 industrial parks for innovation in China, and national cyclic transformation demonstration park.

In 2017, the Zone achieved a total business income of RMB 253 billion, the regional GDP of RMB 21.8 billion, the gross value of industrial output above designated size of RMB 145 billion, the fixed-asset investment of RMB 24 billion, and total export-import volume of RMB 12.9 billion, respectively in the year-on-year growth of 20.6%, 11.3%, 17.5%, 13% and 101.7%. Its economic and social undertakings continue to maintain sound and vigorous development, with comprehensive strength ranking the third of 15 state-level economic and technological development zones in Shandong Province.

The Zone is located at an important node of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region and the Yangtze River Delta, close to the three major ports of Qingdao, Rizhao and Lianyungang, serving as a vital node of China’s "One Belt and One Road" Strategy. The Zone is endowed with unique position advantage as it is adjacent to Linyi Mall, China's largest commodity distribution center, and is equipped with the Linyi customs, commodity inspection authority and national comprehensive bonded zone. The Beijing-Shanghai and Changchun-Shenzhen expressways run north-south, and Rizhao-Dongming and Jinan-Qingdao expressways run east-west. The construction of Lunan High Speed Railway and Lanlin Expressway is in an accelerated speed; meanwhile, the Eastern Line of Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, Jilailin High Speed Railway and Linyi-Lianyungang High Speed Railway are in the early stage of work. The 350km traffic networks of “10 vertical and 12 horizontal roads” within the Zone crisscross. It is only 5-minute drive to Linyi Airport and the Zone has been open to navigation to more than 40 large and medium cities both at home and abroad, contributing to a relatively sound aeroamphibious three-dimensional transportation system.

The Zone is full of vigor and vitality. The forest coverage rate of the whole zone is 40%, and the greening rate is 47.8%, with the per capita green area of 69m2 ranking first in the city and the air quality and fine weather index ranking among the best. Therefore, it is a place that allows people to take a deep breath. It has built two national 4A tourist attractions successively, namely Huangshan Dongyi Cultural Park and Linyi Botanical Garden. Linyi Eastern Eco-city was appraised as a provincial tourism resort, creating a first-rate and nationally known emerging tourist destination centered on children and featured with research and learning during trips. Linyi has established the Youth Comprehensive Demonstration Base, Dongyi Culture Museum, Polar Ocean World and Yimeng Water Conservancy Construction Exhibition Hall and so on in succession, which form new cultural tourism landmarks of Linyi. Besides, F1 Motorboat World Championship, Sino-US Water Skiing Dual Meet, National Motor Boat Championships and other domestic and overseas important aquatic events were successively held here thus continuously improving its popularity and reputation.
